Not in creative review

We aren't in Creative Review. This is probably because we haven't paid them enough to feature, but the simple fact is they don't know that we exist because we haven't told them that we exist, so there's no point in being bitter. One day when I'm feeling full of care and maybe a little bit needy I'll be more interested in peddling ourselves round the design press. Not that I'm convinced it will turn into much work - but just because I want to start putting the word designer after my name or because I need to feel loved like some kind of sell-out, creative-whore like there's an artisitic equivalent to a WAG. Yuck.

Anyway, in the mean time I came across these fellows via Twitter this week and I heartily encourage all those of who have an interest in the pursuit of creative arts to dig about and find some interesting pieces to look at. http://www.notincreativereview.co.uk

We're on their too with my current version of our how it all started story, enthralling stuff: http://www.notincreativereview.co.uk/introduce-yourself

In late 2007 we found ourselves pondering the ponderous nature of the many places we had worked in and decided to do something better. 49th Floor is a creative partnership which began from the smouldering ashes of our previous employment within big, bully-boy agencies.

Together with some highly trained (but sometimes worryingly emotional) squirrels from the nearby woods, an ounce of pluck and a whole heap of mirth we aim to take 'em all on at their own game and hit the big-hitters right in the blue-chips.

We are on twitter @49thfloor and if my designers guide to Shoreditch is correct, this makes us cool. If I was a gladiator I'd be 'Vector' and Andy would be 'Bitmap' however and sadly this makes us un-cool. Because one of us wears glasses though, you can rest assured that we're smart.

Please take a look at our site to see a little of what we've been up to: www.49thfloor.co.uk It'd be really nice to know someone other than my mum and wife go on there from time to time. It's a great read, honest.

Are pretty girls better than logos

We have been working with The Weight Promotions this week to help them get up to speed with their branding and advertising. They are a small, local music promotions setup who arrange music events in Luton and the surrounding areas and since having had involvement  in the past with Stylus Promotions and Starlight Promotions we were more than happy for an opportunity at a change of pace. Luton is a much maligned town in the UK and whilst some of the trash which is talked about it is partially justified – we are passionate about supporting projects to help the profile of the town in whatever ways we can.

Social Avatar Guide

This is a simple guide to saving images or logos to be used as avatars at the correct size for various popular social networks. Remember though, if you're not used to photo manipulation or design products like Photoshop or Illustrator a great and fast resizing resource is available at: http://mypictr.com which is free and a piece of cake to use. Is Twitter Rubbish?

Since we have relaunched this web site we have been making a conscious effort to embrace modernity by getting balls deep into Twitter. We have a Facebook page which requires some attention frankly, but I wanted to start with Twitter because from what I have read it's a more direct marketing tool. I think it's important if you intend to promote a service or a feature yourself to have gone through the same process as a potential client in order to observe first hand what the pit-falls and problems are likely to be and so we are giving it a try.

New to blogging

I have faced a personal struggle during the construction of this revamped web site regarding whether or not to include a blog. All too often the blogs that I have bothered to read just don't have anything to say of interest or are so transparent in their convoluted approach to selling you stuff that I have until this point recoiled in horror at the thought. In the end I thought it would be a good idea to cultivate a voice with which to hopefully reach out to prospective clients and interested parties alike, but I'm not expecting the process of writing blog posts to be plain sailing. I genuinely hope that the ramblings and cynicism that will occur on these pages will not fall on deaf ears and that more importantly we never use this blog as a pseudo on-line diary page. Do you want to know what I had for tea or what programme I will watch on telly after Eastenders? No, I wouldn't have thought so.
