Graphic design blog and banter

This weekend I decided to turn off the TV, power down the Mac and just sit and listen to some music. This doesn't sound too ground-breaking does it, but listening to music for pure pleasure rather than to break creepy office silence, drown out your pounding heart as you run around the block or to act as the soundtrack to alcohol fuelled nonsense is a novel concept whilst other more modern pursuits vie for your attention.

If you take the time to really listen to an album, from start to finish - even if it's one that you are familiar with I am sure that you'll find it a rewarding experience as I did. I found that when I was done, my creative spirit had been enriched and I set about doing some sketching - which is something I always mean to do more of.

These examples won't win us any clients I suspect, but I thought I'd share them with you anyway just because. Click on each one to get a larger version.

chemicalcrapchristmas

We have constructed a list of Christmas elements which can be used to scientifically identify a crap Chirstmas.

Download FREE hi-res Christmas periodic table poster – click here.

Example if you were Angie Watts in the famous 1985 Eastenders Christmas episode you could scientifically represent it as:
JxGrr+2Ee = Bd+X/No1

Or if you were Dawn Tinsley in the finale of the exceptionally brilliant Christmas special of The Office (UK) your composition would look more like this:
2Sp-FsxEf=Ul

Disclaimer: We love Christmas and this list should in no way be taken as a criticism of those we have been fortunate enough to spend our festive periods with. It is everyone we've ever known (including ourselves) who have inspired this list, but dry those eyes. We know it's these irritations that make Christmas what it is and without a little bit (major heap) of crap, what would Christmas be?

Christmas marketing

It's the second time that the proper art review of the week hasn't really contained any proper art. This is out of 2 occasions too, making it a 100% failure rate - so apologies. It's just that this week we have been working on some of our Christmas marketing materials we are hoping will win us some new business and that with the fact that today is the 1st of December has made me feel all Christmassy. The video below is the intro sequence for 'The Box of Delights' which brings back really great Christmas memories from yesteryear and I wanted to share it with you all. Andy had never heard of it, which disturbs me greatly - but this should not put you off basking in some nostalgia.

This was supposed to be the first proper art review of the week post, but whilst this is just about art, kind of - it made me too excited to pass up sharing. I always think that the best art inspires you and after watching this I want/NEED to find myself a decent concept so I can have a go!

This was designed and produced by: Katy Beveridge
Featuring on bikes: Henry Chung, Fernando Laposse and Dominic Roup

Enjoy :)
