Terry Wogan in the morning
I like Terry as a human being, but his show LITERALLY SENDS ME TO SLEEP. I think it's his voice coupled with his easy going manner, but either way forcing yourself into work is hard enough without the guy on the radio sending you back to sleep.
Music: some easy going classics which also make me sleepy
Ken Bruce
The poor mans Terry Wogan surely? All of the above still applies although the music seems to take a turn for the worse and there's that Crrrrrrrrrrrrrap quiz - ugh. Every single day, EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. it's the f'ing same and every day I don't care. What makes it worse is that those around me in the studio play along?!?! Why. Why bother? Rubbish.
Music: getting worse
Jeremy Vine
Do I need to explain why this hateful, hateful, argumentative prick gets on my nerves so much, really? I don't doubt that he's a clever, informed gentlemen who offers an interesting and valid forum for discussion and debate. No hold on, I do doubt this - he just books and then bates participants on the most contentious issue from the Daily Mail newspaper and gets 2 polar opposite sides to trade ignorance until I lose the will to live. The fact that this show has ruined so many lunch breaks over the years brings me to tears upon reflection. After listening to this arrogant, pseudo Jeremy Kyle wreck my respect for humanity I need to site down in a calm place to relax for a while. FYI, it's not the fault of the public who ring in, it's his revelling in and exacerbation of issues poorly expressed and not presented in a fair way that I hate. That plus his smarm factor is through the roof.
Music: none, although the link at the end of his show is always cringe-worthy.
Steve Wright in the afternoon
This is the man who is responsible for the majority of my Radio 2 based rage. This self obsessed, faux zany, musically fraudulent, humour vacuum has been going for as long as time itself and is CLEARLY the biggest sycophant that has ever been. His show is reprehensible shite and following straight on from the rage enduing Vine made me seriously consider going Bickle (reference: Travis, from Taxi Driver) on the radio at worrying frequency. His team are irritating idiots who put even Chris Moyles bunch of vacuous nobodies to shame. The term yes-men was clearly devised to describe the Steve Wright show team and their true devotion to the up-keep of Wright's bum-hole is both impressive in a way and powerfully depressing to an intense extreme. Here's a factoid for you, factoids are never and have never been fun, interesting or amusing in any way. Ever. This also applies to ask Elvis and as for the 'LoveTheShow' bit at the end - just don't get me started.
Music: His favourite song apparently is 'Seasons in the Sun'. This guy does not love music and don't believe anyone who tells you otherwise. Oldies chosen by the public are a constant and repetitive disappointment.
Chris Evans Drivetime
Actually, I never really minded Chris Evans. I enjoyed The Big Breakfast, TFI Friday and anything else he's involved in - but sadly for Chris, the damage has been done and at the point in the day where the airwaves go Ginger - I've had it and want a pint of Stella and a fight with a gypsy on the way to the car.
Music: Harmless, if not earth shattering
I understand Chris Evans now does the morning stint and Simon Mayo now does drive-time (whom I also like) but the Radio torture as explained earlier took it's inevitable toll. During the formation of 49th Floor I insisted that I'd give any radio station a go and listen to any iPod playlist - even the most bizarre as I'm a fan of both music and diversity, however Radio 2 can go silent forever as far as I'm concerned and I hope God has prepared a special (and lonely) circle of Hell for Wright and Vine to discuss genital wart treatments and present factoids about sun-burn to each other for the rest of eternity (not already broadcast).
Nowadays we listen to Radio 6, Radio 5, pocasts and most importantly - Spotify. As a recurring feature we'll share with you our playlist of the week. You don't have to like it - and often we won't like it either, but I hope it might give you an insight into what music we chose to fuel our creativity.
