Did nobody throughout the creative process recognise that their might be a potential issue with this? The phrase 'Utterly Repellent' conjures up some pretty alarming images in my head and ones that I wouldn't want associated with my brand. Whilst I appreciate any major retail group adopting a brutally honest marketing stand-point can you imagine if some other popular brands started selling their products with a similar approach?
> McDonalds: Catestophically unhealthy burgers.
> BP: Environmentally disastrous fuel.
> Farm Foods: Cheap and Nasty food.
> Argos: Totally shit furniture.
Here's a bunch of posters that I think start to nod in the right direction of what 'utterly replant' is and I hope M&S as a Great British institution pull their advertising fingers out and get the notion out of their minds that their marketing departments saved their asses. That was 5 years ago MoFos, and they need a new agency.
