Are pretty girls better than logos

We have been working with The Weight Promotions this week to help them get up to speed with their branding and advertising. They are a small, local music promotions setup who arrange music events in Luton and the surrounding areas and since having had involvement  in the past with Stylus Promotions and Starlight Promotions we were more than happy for an opportunity at a change of pace. Luton is a much maligned town in the UK and whilst some of the trash which is talked about it is partially justified – we are passionate about supporting projects to help the profile of the town in whatever ways we can.

The brief in this case involved the requirement to utilise some supplied imagery which took the form of some very pretty models. Tough life sometimes. Working tirelessly with these images reminded me of something I read sometime ago regarding the popularity of your social network status being easily increased by changing your avatar image from a corporate logo to a face-shot. It appears that people prefer to connect with people rather than companies therefore? I'm intrigued by this and want to put it to the test. Here is a list of 100 really creative Twitter avatars (which at a tiny 48px width is no mean feat) which I ignored as inspiration deciding instead that sex sells. I figured that people would want to connect with pretty young models EVEN MORE than with either of us plain looking fellows and so I am about to update our Twitter Avatar (and design therein) to utilise the illustration done this week. Fingers crossed it makes a difference.
